Right after the celebration, the reportage about Hanoi – Amsterdam High School “a 30-year journey and future aspirations” was projected in Ams’s 700 – seat conference room. The historical footage about the school’s foundation throughout times marks the beginning of the documentary. Hanoi- Amsterdam High School was established on the year 1985 as a gift from Amsterdam, Netherlands citizens to people in Hanoi. It was therefore named Hanoi – Amsterdam, the school of dreams, being the first gifted school in the capital.

On the way to its 30 years of establishment and development,  the school itself has taken the lead in its educational system with its international stature. Every year, Amsers are gloriously honored in the competition of internatonal stature such as Intel ISEF, IJSO, IMC and the Olympiads. Student Vu Thanh Trung Nam has set the records for Vietnam with 3 medals in the International Physics Olympiad competition. This is such a great pride for the school whose name is symbolized as an unstoppable flame maintained and lit by generations of teachers and students.

Following the traditions and looking forward to the bright future is the message which the footage implies. On 4-9-2010, along with the bustling drumbeat, Hanoi – Amsterdam High School begun a new academic year in a brand new location.With modern facilities, the school promised to provide the best conditions to its students. However, the old Hanoi – Amsterdam will always be in the heart of the new Hanoi – Amsterdam. This is the strongest desire of the school, which is to maintain its good values throughout 30 years, as well as rise up to the future and conquer new challenges. The footage serves as a bridge, a special gift for generations of teachers and students throughout 30 years of the school’s development, leaving the most beautiful feelings for all teachers and students.

After that was the screening premiere of the movie DreAms – a short film created by generations of Amsers on the occasion of the 30^th anniversary of Ams – a path to future aspirations and Receiving the Second- class Independence Medal. The movie speaks for the gratitude of 30 – year generations of Amsers to their teachers and their school.

Earlier, when the movie was still on record, its trailer had made good impressions on the audiences. Many former as well as current Amsers has showed their support by sending their ideas, opinions and wishes about the movie to the mailbox. The movie’s teaser has all made us fret with obsessive memories of our childhood, with poetic and slow scences depicting immense past, together with light and soothing music. With only two minutes, the teaser has demonstrated an innocent and sincere love story while at school – the purest emotion that everyone has experienced.

The movie has slow pace and few actions, but is prone to strike emotion in the soul. Each scence was carefully choreographed by a professional crew, but more importantly with their own hearts and enthusiasm. It focuses on exploiting all the beauty at Ams, for the camera crew didn’t miss out any sparkling moments at the school. Modern facilities with international standards does not take the spontaneity in Ams, which is a very distinct characteristic. Natural surroundings appear poetic and dreamlike under the lenses, which makes Ams more and more beautiful.

The harmonization of speed and sound in the movie is one of the most important elements to contribute to the success of DreAms. The halfway ending of the movie leaves the audiences with multiple aftertaste. With gentle and deep melody sung by the sweet voices of the young cast, music is the closing door of the movie. The former Amser from the first course, after 30 years, has all grown up, now burst into their teachers’ arms, into the warm friendship throughout all these years. 30 minutes of the movie may not be able to illustrate the whole Ams, but it has carried the most specific traits about it. The content of DreAms has touched our deepest feeling and brings us back to the age of seventeen, a time to remember, and to cherish.
