The “Tu hao Viet Nam” (“Vietnam Pride”) research competition is a competition about Vietnam’s history and culture for students from high schools, vocational schools and continuing education centers all over the country; it is organized with a view to creating a healthy environment for union members, students to compete, igniting the passion for exploring, studying history, and at the same time fortifying the patriotic spirit, national pride, utilizing the responsibility of Vietnamese youths in education, training, building and protecting their motherland.

The attendants at the ceremony included Mr Bui Truong Giang, Vice Head of Central Propaganda and Training Commission; Mr Nguyen Anh Tuan, Standing Secretary of the Union’s Central Committee; the representative leaders of the ministries, departments and branches, the representatives from Egroup Education Group Joint Stock Company, the school board and all 11th graders from Hanoi - Amsterdam High school for the Gifted.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Nguyen Anh Tuan, Standing Secretary of the Union’s Central Committee, stated that an intelligent person had to be knowledgeable about history; Uncle Ho has also advised “Our citizens must know our country’s history, so that they understand the origins of our homeland, Vietnam”. Lately, the education branch has made an effort to improve teaching and studying qualities in the History subject; teachers and parents have had many conversations about the importance of studying History. However, the average History score in the national university entrance test is only 4.3; 70% of students scored below 5; only 9.47% of students registered to take the entrance test for C00 majors.

This is the third “Tu hao Viet Nam” research competition about the country’s history and culture. This year, the competition experienced a variety of changes: the extended duration of the competition with 2 rounds, increasing interactivity and additionally, apart from the two knowledge round and video producing round, there is also an infographic designing ground.

The organizing team said the price of all the prizes added up to more than 300 million VND. Individuals and teams that earn the highest prizes will receive a certificate from the Central Committee and the Department of Education and Training, along with money.

Representing students all over Hanoi to respond to the competition, Phung Bao Ngoc (11 History, Hanoi - Amsterdam High shcool for the Gifted) saw the competition as a place where students can learn novel knowledge, go over old knowledge and build up their love for their homeland.
