Hanoi-Amsterdam High school for the Gifted’s Student Association panel meeting of the school year 2019 - 2020

On the afternoon of October 9, 2019, in 100-seats Hall, Hanoi-Amsterdam High school for the Gifted’s Student Association panel meeting of the school year 2019 - 2020 took place successfully, including the election for the new steering committee of the Student Association of the school year 2019 - 2020.

Student Association panel meeting is a significant event held in order to summarize the major achievements of the 2019 - 2020 term as well as propose plans for school activities in the coming term. Attending the meeting were: Ms. Tran Dieu Linh - Member of the District Council, Ms. Duong Tu Anh - Vice Principal, Mr. Cao Van Dung - Administrator of the school’s Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers, Ms. Le Hong Hanh - Deputy Administrator of the school’s Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers with more than 70 noted secondary-school pioneers from 24 classes in total.   

The opening ceremony of the meeting includes opening speeches, rituals of flag salutations, singings of the national anthem and the solemn song of Ho Chi Minh’s Youth Pioneers. 

The participants of the meeting listened attentively to the Summary Report of the school year 2018 - 2019 of the Hanoi-Amsterdam High school for the Gifted. Accordingly, the school has made many excellent accomplishments, especially in competitions such as Contest for Excellent Students (with 30 First Prizes on a district scale and 12 First Prizes on a city scale), HOMC (with 7 First Prizes), APMOPS (10 platinum medals), IMC (with 4 gold medals, 2 team champion cups)...The steering committee of the Student Association has also satisfactorily organized events of the Ho Chi Minh’s Youth Pioneers Confederation and extracurricular activities such as Orientation Day, Tet Festival, Nineternal, and other charitable activities, including the school-wide donation of unused or wasted papers. Alongside these wins were certain limitations and shortcomings to be overcome in the next term. 

After confering and approving the direction of the school year 2019 - 2020 with the theme “Vietnamese youths, promoting traditions, hard-working and obedient, advancing to the Union”, the meeting arrived at the discourse part. Discourses on academics, regulations, extracurricular activities respectively presented in the panel meeting have shed light on the weaknesses and strengths as well as suggested course of actions for members of the Ho Chi Minh’s Youth Pioneers Confederation. The discourse on academics put the emphasis on the significance of goals and motivation in learning - igniting the burning flame of learning will and the desire to thrive academically - and outlining several methods of effective studying for the members to implement. Meanwhile, the discourse of disciplines pointed out existing problems such as truancy and swearing, which is attributed to the lack of interests and regulations of both teachers and families. The discourse on extracurricular activities highlights the benefits of participating in arts and sports: students gain experience in teamworking and problem-solving, and become more responsible and confident. 

After that, participants paid attention to the direction of Ms. Tran Dieu Linh - Member of the District Council. She sang praises to the school envolvement in the promotion of Ho Chi Minh’s Youth Piooners Confederation both academics-wise and extracurricular-wise. In addition, she presented a number of issues the school needs to address in the forthcoming term including encouraging the engagement of students in charitable and summer activities and reinforcing fruitful conversations with the School Board of Directors to fulfil the assigned tasks. 

The final part of the panel meeting was to elect the steering committee of the Student Association of the term 2019 - 2020. The 5 most outstanding members would be selected to take over the conducting of the aforementioned directions in this school year.

After a period of impartial and transparent vote-counting,  the Election Department announced the new steering committee of the Student Association of the term 2019 - 2020 of Hanoi-Amsterdam High school for the Gifted, including the following individuals: 

  1. Pham Ngoc Gia Phong - Class 9A

  2. Nguyen Mai Hong Anh - Class 9D

  3. Nguyen Hoang Dam Thuyen - Class 9A

  4. Pham Vu Quy - Class 8C

  5. Nguyen Xuan Mai - Class 7 Manchester
