On 12/11/2012, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted had the honor of welcoming the Administrator of The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)- Charles Bolden to share his valuable experiences.

In a short meeting with the school board, Mr. Bolden was very glad to know that Hanoi - Amsterdam is one of Vietnam’s most modern high schools as it enables students to realize their full potential.

He also said that NASA would promote numerous summer internship programs to help students seize the opportunity to study more about the aerospace industry. Moreover, Mr. Bolden hoped more and more Hanoi-Amsterdam students would be admitted to prestigious universities in the United States in the future.

2

Right after that was the talk of the NASA Administrator with the school’s 12-graders.

First, Mr. Charles Bolden introduced how NASA-the world’s leading aeronautics and space agency- works.

7

He then gave the Amsers three useful tips, which were:

1. Study hard

2. Work hard

3. Do not be afraid of failure

He encouraged the students to work hard as well as not to falter when facing challenges or failures, and shared interesting experiences in his four times traveling in space.

7

Furthermore, Amsers did have a lucky chance to interact with the administrator. One also straightly expressed his opinion, which said it would be better to "Study efficiently, work effectively" rather than “Study hard, Work hard” only. Mr. Bolden was pleasingly surprised at this boy’s viewpoint. This was actually a very enjoyable incident for the gifted students at Hanoi – Amsterdam high school.

At the end of the talk, Mr. Bolden told the story of Nkosi Johnson with a message:

"Do all you can

with what you have

in the time that you have

in the place that you are "

"You are the people who change your country and the world"

The NASA Administrator Charles Bolden’s significant visit is undoubtedly the driving force for Hanoi - Amsterdam teachers and students to strive to achieve  more in not only the domestic arena but also the international one.
