Meet the 2015 English Olympics Champions of Hanoi-Amsterdam
The 2015-2016 English Olympics for high school students took place successfully, honoring the most outstanding students at English in the city of Hanoi. We had a quick interview with the contestants who won the first prize to hear them share their feelings as well as some useful tips to learn English successfully.
Le To Linh, a student in Hanoi Amsterdam High School, said: "I learn English with passion rather than strive for grades or achievements. But passion alone is not enough. To learn a language well, you need hard work, patience and the time invested in the subject. I often read books in English to imitate prose, writing style and diction. Like many others, I watch movies, listen to music to learn how to speak natively ".
Thy Nguyen Tue - Hanoi Amsterdam High School: "I feel quite surprised and happy to know that I won the first prize in the English Olympiad. According to me, learning English is the accumulation of knowledge in the process of studying. To acquire good skills at grammar, we need nothing other than hard work and practice tests. Listening and speaking requires flexibility and appropriate methods for each person. I often watch movies, listen to music, and converse in English with my classmates to improve my listening-speaking skills. "
Nguyen Hoang Nhu Anh - Hanoi Amsterdam High School: "This is the 3rd time I have received first prize in the English Olympiad. It is an honor and a beautiful celebration to mark my learning journey. I feel very happy that I could keep up my performance during the past year. As children, to learn English, the most important thing is to train hard and be passionate about the subject. Without passion, you will not be able to follow and succeed in this subject. "
Vu Hoang Trung - A student in Hanoi Amsterdam High School: "I believe people have countless ways to learn English.. I wouldn’t say that people need that something called “passion”, but what they need is to find a way to learn English in the most comfortable and dedicated way. I acquired my foundations for English very naturally, from grade two through the daily activities such as listening to music, watching movies, and searching google in English. Once I had a solid foundation for learning at a higher level, I started reading all kinds of English documents or studying abroad sites, participating in the translating team of school’s website, and occasionally doing some English practice textbooks ".
Pham Tuan Bao Chau - Hanoi Amsterdam High School: "I'm really glad for I did not expect my results would win the first prize. I regularly watch programs in English. I am especially interested in Discovery Channel and some of the celebrity talk shows that I love. I also speak in English with my classmates”
Le Hoang Nam - A student in Hanoi Amsterdam High School: "According to me, when learning English, one should try to apply it to daily life, to get the exposure to English as much as possible, especially through foreign movies or websites. What’s even better is to practice thinking in English. As a result, English gradually turns into a natural thing in life. Then, learning English will not be too heavy and you can easily acquire knowledge.
