HANOI - AMSTERDAM HIGH SCHOOL’S DECEMBER YOUTH UNION MEETING - 2021
In the final days of 2021 and in the complicated context of the global Covid-19 pandemic, students and teachers of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted have all had a very special semester. Although forced to execute lesson plans and interact with each other through a virtual classroom, they have held regular December’s Youth Union meetings to much of everyone’s excitement and positivity.
With December’s theme “The youth’s role in national construction and protection”, each class has chosen various formats to celebrate the 77th Anniversary of Vietnam People's Army (22/12/1944-22/12/2021) and the 32nd Anniversary of People’s National Defense Day (22/12/1989-22/12/2021).

It is thus apparent that the Youth Union meeting’s theme has proven to be of great importance and relevant to the students, for the reason that they - those who hold the future and fate of our nations, ought to realize their own responsibilities to contribute in homeland construction and protection.
12 Math 1’s Youth Union looking into the traditions around the Vietnam People’s Army Founding Day
Going back 77 years ago, on that year’s December 22nd, following the policies of the Central Committee and the instruction of Leader Hồ Chí Minh, the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army was founded (later changed into the People's Army of Vietnam in 1950). It was the year 1989 that the Committee’s Secretariat chose December 22nd as not only the annual founding anniversary of the People’s Army of Vietnam but also Vietnam's National Defense Day. Onwards to the present, December 22nd has become a day of great historic importance; therefore, the Youth Union meetings’ celebration activities have had great spiritual values, helping students appreciate our ancestor’s sacrifices and recognize their duties and responsibilities as a citizen in homeland construction and protection.

Moreover, as a way to increase the lessons’ interaction and overall learning impacts, during these meetings, many classes have used a variety of teaching methods such as using game applications like Quizizz or hosting informative and engaging Q&As

Along with the online Youth Union meetings, numerous activities to commemorate and assist the heroes, martyrs and their families as well as households under preferential policies have been of particular importance to the school’s teachers and students. A striking example of this is 12 Math 1’s Youth Union, who organized a lively appreciation celebration at the Sanatorium for Seriously Wounded Soldiers at town Duy Tiên, district Hà Nam. The students have also gotten a chance to meet and talk with live witnesses of such a heroic and historic fighting period for our country.

December’s Youth Union meetings have invariably left many students with priceless lessons on our ancestors’ sacrifices, helping them all the more appreciate the hardship endured by our soldiers and police in protecting our nation and ensuring our society’s well being. As citizens of the capital, we should always continuously strive to make progress and arm ourselves with knowledge to become excellent members of the Youth Union and a great contributor to the construction, protection and security of our homeland.
