Each year, students of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School constantly strive to make a mark on intellectual playgrounds domestically and internationally. In 2022, at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA), 9 Amsers became the only Vietnamese students to achieve good results.

The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) for high school students was created to recognize the major role of Astronomy and Astrophysics in our lives and in educating teenagers, as well as promoting international exchanges between various countries around the world. Contestants from different participating teams of the competition have to sit through four parts of the exam in English: Practical competition (stargazing inside a planetarium, star mapping and night sky observation through a telescope), theoretical competition, data analysis competition and team competition. The olympiad was first organized in Chiang Mai, Thailand in October, 2007.

Each year, the olympiad takes place in a different country and is participated by hundreds of high school students with a special love for Astronomy and Astrophysics. In the year 2022, IOAA was organized in Kutaisi, Georgia from August 14th to 22rd in 2022, and joining the olympiad were over 200 contestants coming from all continents around the globe.

In 2022, due to bad weather, the sky observation test could not be conducted according to the schedule. Despite these odds, the Hanoi team representing Vietnam earned achievements of 01 Silver, 05 Bronze and 01 Consolation prize, namely:

- Bùi Gia Nhật Minh, 11 Physics 1 with a Silver medal

- Nguyễn Đức Hiệp, 11 Physics 1 along with Đỗ Quỳnh Anh, Trần Quang Minh Duy, Vũ Hoàng Quốc Bảo, Nguyễn An Lộc of 10 Physics 1 with a Bronze medal

- Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, 10 Physics 1 with a consolation prize

On behalf of the website’s editorial board, we would like to honor the Vietnamese team for their achievements at IOAA 2022. We hope that these students will continue to shine in their respective fields of study in the next school year of 2022-2023.
