Vietnamese student delegation has had a glorious victory with 8 teamwork trophies, 2 championship trophies and 23 individual prizes including 1 Gold Medal; 4 Silver Medals; 12 Bronze Medals and 6 Consolation Prizes.

International Mathematics Competition (IMC) is held for students all around the world under the age of 14 (EMIC) or 17 (IWYMIC) from the year 1999. Vietnam’s continuous success in the competition after 5 years has left its everlasting impression on international friends about Vietnamese’s Mathematical skills and qualifications as well as honored the country’s culture and its hospitable people.

The 2016 IMC Competition (TIMC) is hosted by Thailand Basic Education Commission, Ministry of Education in Chiang Mai City from 14/8 to 20/8. The host country has proved its excellence by offering its warm welcomes and professional organization. Similar to the past years, a nation team consists of a maximum of 6 members: the leader, the second in command and 4 students. Each team has to go through two competition rounds including individual competition and team session on 17/8.  In addition to the above contest, national teams will be participating in outdoor activities around the country: puzzle challenge, sightseeing, cultural exchange night,etc...

Vietnamese delegates in Thailand for the IMC Competition

This year, under the permission of the Ministry of Education and Training, in behalf of the nation,  24 students and 8 teachers from Hanoi – Amsterdam High School have taken part in the competition. Mrs. Phung Thi Kim Dung – Leader of the nation’s team  and Mathematics Group Leader let us know that there are 622 participants coming from 31 countries and territories. Vietnamese nation team is divided into 6 groups including 4 Junior teams (under 14 years of age) and 2 Senior teams (under 17 years of age).

The team session this year gained 8 trophies with 2 championship trophies. In the individual competition, 23 students have won prizes, namely:

1. Junior Age: 1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals, 7 Bronze Medals, 6 Consolation Prizes.

2. Senior Age: 2 Silver Medals, 5 Bronze Medals

Competing in Thailand is a major problem for other nations because the host country has a really strong team with a large amount of participants. However, Vietnam still stands on top along with Thailand, Bulgaria and Hong Kong.
