English Performance 2012 –an A2’s annual performance
On Wednesday afternoon, May 16th 2012, class 11A2 of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School successfully organized a brilliant performance critically acclaimed by the audience.
Originally scheduled for a 4pm commencement, the show was delayed till 5pm due to technical problems. This postponement, however, was worthwhile, for the performance enlisted tremendous support from the spectators right from the start.
Familiar melodies of Heal the World or Safe and Sound etc. resonated through the harmonious and stirring voices of the performers.
The musical, which is entitled “Frankenstein”, followed afterwards. Below are some moments recorded during the performance.
The Frankenstein family emerges, accompanied by delightful, merry tunes.
Victor’s mother all of a sudden passes away to everyone’s grief and sorrow
Victor came up with the idea of resurrection
– he is waiting for the fruits of his experiments
The resulting monster is sentient…
It stirs up trouble, accidentally murdering Victor’s brother and....
is chased by the villagers...
A twist in 11A2’s screenplay is a romance between The Beast and Amelia.
The auditorium is immersed in the beautiful words of “Beauty and the Beast” by Celine Dion, as Amelia realizes the benign nature of The Beast, and resolves to pursue her love despite objections from her family
Victor and Elizabeth’s wedding is interrupted by the presence of The Beast.
…as he returns to the village with Amelia, hoping to prove his innocence. But all they get in return is Victor’s disdain.
An infuriated Amelia exposes the truth: The Beast was in fact created by Victor, the real enemy of the people.
The last and probably most heart-rending scene shows a fearless Beast taking a stab in the heart for Victor. He simply explained: “Because you are my master, and my creator.”
The curtains closed to great applause from the audience. Performers of 11A2 stepped out to the stage with a meaningful message: Could the hideous Beast possess a benevolent soul? And could the cold-blooded, pitiless Victor, in his human form, really be called a man? Humanity, sometimes, exists in ways we never thought of.
Concluding the performance was footages and photos from behind the scenes, as well as 11A2’s gratitude to their teachers, parents as well as sponsors.
We express our sincerest thanks to 11A2 for delivering such an expressive message in such a painstakingly organized event, and hope for the success of more performances in the future.
