HANOI - AMSTERDAM HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE GIFTED: 35 YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT WITH REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the gifted was established in 1985. Nowadays, it is among the most popular secondary and high schools in Hanoi. After 35 years of training and learning, the school has accomplished remarkable achievements.

1. State medals

The school has received numerous titles as a school, party, labor union, youth union and emulation unit.

Moreover, the school has been awarded the following medals by the Communist Party of Vietnam and the State of Vietnam:

- Third class Labour Order (1995)

- Second class Labour Order (2000)

- Hero Unit in the era of Modernization (2000)

- Accredited as National Standard School (2004)

- First-class Labour Order (2005)

- First-class Independence Order (2005)

- Third class Independence Order (2010)

- Second class Independence Order (2015)


2. Domestic achievements

 

After 25 years since 1985, students of Hanoi - Amsterdam have achieved 3500 titles in regional/ local competitions, and 1000 titles in national competitions. Furthermore, the school’s national team has been at the forefront of the country for years in several awards. 

Among 134 official school teachers, there are 4 Doctors and 44 Masters. Many teachers of the school have received presidential commendations for Outstanding Teacher. There are 7 teachers who have been awarded the title of Meritorious Teacher, and a teacher unit has been awarded Third place Labour Order.

3. International achievements

 

From 1985 to 2010, 81 students have attended Olympiad competitions in Science in China, Canada, the US,... and have achieved 77 medals in total.

- In 2018, at the International Junior Science Olympiad held in Gaborone, Botswana, 6 students from Hanoi - Amsterdam representing Vietnam have arrived at third place, receiving a Bronze Medal of Most Excellent National Award.

- In 2019, at the International Chemistry Olympiad held in Paris, France, Tran Ba Tan was given the Special Award for best practical entry.

In 2019, at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics held in Keszthely, Hungary, Nguyen Manh Quan achieved the special award for Contestant with the highest score.

4. Achievements in the graduation exams and university entrance exams

In 2011, 100% of the school’s students graduated from high school, with 2 students being the valedictorian and salutatorian.

Hanoi - Amsterdam was ranked 11st among 200 high schools all over the country in graduation results. 95% of students from Hanoi - Amsterdam are admitted into the top universities in Vietnam. About 30% - 35% of students study abroad. Numerous post-graduates of Hanoi - Amsterdam have become students of Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, MIT, Carnegie Mellon University, Johns Hopkins, Hitotsubashi, etc. and many reliable universities in the US, Britain, Singapore, Australia, Germany, Korea, China, etc.


With the aforementioned achievements, teachers and students of Hanoi - Amsterdam will continue to strive and make a name for itself internationally. 2020 is the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the school.
