Teacher Nguyen Duc Nghia shares his thoughts on the Lunar New Year of 2023
The Lunar New Year of the Cat is drawing near, and so is the bustling atmosphere of homecoming amidst the delightful colors of peach and apricot blooms. Our teachers must have already set aside the stresses and strains of work to celebrate this Lunar New Year with their families. In that joyful spirit, let's hear what our beloved History teacher, Mr. Nguyen Duc Nghia, has to share about this wonderful occasion!
Reporter: Greetings! My name is Bao Linh, a reporter from the Ams Wide Web Club. First and foremost, I'd like to thank you for taking part in the interview today! To start the interview, can you please share your thoughts on the ever-approaching Tet holiday?
Mr. Nghĩa: This year's Tet atmosphere seems to be considerably more peaceful, and joyful than the previous years’, in part owing to the fact that people have more opportunity to meet each other now that the Covid-19 pandemic has died down. The weather is also chilly, which is perfect for the atmosphere of Tet. In my opinion, however, I think Tet is still the same as it has always been.
Reporter: Can you sum up last year in two words? And what is the significance of these two words to you?
Mr. Nghĩa: If I had to sum up the previous year in two words, I'd say “efforts” and “luck”: I always strive to fulfill all duties and responsibilities, and a little fortune has smiled upon me during my work and social life. This allows me to continue accompanying the students of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School and getting to know you all, my amazing students, has brought me a lot of joy in life. It is a wonderful opportunity and also a huge honor for me, no doubt!

Reporter: The year 2023 is approaching fast, bringing with it many hopes and dreams. Do you have any plans to kick off the new year?
Mr. Nghĩa: As a matter of fact, my life these days has been rather monotonous; I've grown so accustomed to it that I have no big ideas or plans for the new year of 2023. “Throw caution to the wind”, as fate would have it. Live a healthy lifestyle, pursue your passions, and enjoy your time with other people. That’s all what I ask for!

Reporter: As far as I know, you were formerly a History major who has gone on to teach this subject in the classroom. So, do you think that Tet when you were a student was different from Tet now that you're a teacher?
Mr. Nghĩa: Tet as a student and as a teacher are significantly different. When I was a student, on every Lunar New Year, I would beg my teachers to give me presents; not only that, I also enjoyed the carefree and cheerful youth of a student’s life. In contrast, now that I'm a teacher, I have more things to worry about. Also, when Tet arrives, students always come to me for one thing: “Teacher, give us lucky money for the new year!” (laughs)
In addition to his time at school, he also has a great time with his friends.
Reporter: Finally, on the eve of the Lunar New Year, do you have any wishes to send to all students as well as those reading this article?
Mr. Nghĩa: Before we step into the New Year of the Cat, may all the students continue to be as adorable, quick-witted and energetic as cats, and may all people who are reading it and the Ams Wide Web editorial board enjoy a peaceful and successful new year, a new year that you all have wished for. Happy Lunar New Year!
Another year has passed, and let us leave all the troubles behind and get ready for a new and exciting journey! As a few last words, on behalf of the Ams Wide Web editorial board, we would like to send my best wishes to all students, teachers as well as everyone here a wonderful Tet holiday with their loved ones. Hope everyone has a happy and successful new year!
