Math honors Amser Toán Hoàng Minh Hiếu successfully won Gold at the U15 National Chess Championship, a grandmaster of the International Chess Federation

Just a few days after student Nguyen Hong Nhung (11 Math 2) won a prestigious Silver Medal at the World Youth Chess tournament for U14, U16 and U18 students, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School continued to excitedly welcome good news, this time from student Hoang Minh Hieu (10 Maths 1) - the Gold winner of the U15 National Chess Championship in the Blitz category in July and was awarded a grandmaster by the International Chess Federation. (FIDE).

The National Youth Chess Championship was held from July 7 to 18, 2022 in Da Lat - Lam Dong. The tournament includes blitz chess, fast chess and standard chess for 8 age groups of boys and girls namely U6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 20, in which Hoang Minh enrolled in his strongest one: Blitz chess for the U15. 

The National Youth Chess Championship was held from July 7 to 18, 2022 in Da Lat city - Lam Dong.

After nine rounds, Minh Hieu surpassed 27 opponents from all over the country with a total score of 7.5, winning a convincing Gold Medal. Minh Hieu shared his thoughts: “This is a meaningful tournament because it has only been a while since the intense entrance exam and it’s also been the first one to be held directly in the aftermath of the pandemic.”

In addition, Minh Hieu has just been crowned by FIDE as a grandmaster of the International Chess Federation. Hieu has performed well in recent international tournaments and has gained 200 Elo, raising his Elo level to 2143 Elo, thereby increasing his rank by nearly 20,000 on FIDE's ranking list. Some of his most remarkable achievements in recent tournaments include: Silver in the 2017 Asian Youth Chess Championship’s Blitz chess held in Uzbekistan, Bronze in the 2018 Asian Youth Chess Championship’s Blitz chess held in Thailand, Silver in the 2019 Asian Youth Chess Championship’s Blitz chess held in Sri Lanka and other medals in Southeast Asian tournaments in the years 2015-2020.

Furthermore, in the 10th grade entrance exam, Hoang Minh Hieu passed the exam, becoming the valedictorian among other 10 Math students of the High School for the Gifted ,  HUS, passed the Math classes of HNUE High School and Hanoi - Amsterdam High School and scored the only 10 in the Math honors entrance exam.
