GART6520 X FRC 2023: The sole representative of Vietnam left for Australia to partake in the international robotics competition
On March 5, 2023, the GreenAms 6520 Robotics Team from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted team arrived in Wollongong, Australia to get ready to step onto the live stage of the FIRST Robotics Competition - FIRST's annual large-scale contest on robotics research, creation and competition.
First - America's oldest technology competition for children. Established in 1989, this is a contest for children with a history of more than 30 years. First has 5 categories to compete from 6 to 18 years old. FRC - FIRST Robotics Competition is the hardest level of the tournament, since the robots are designed more openly and with more capacity. This is the tournament with the largest number of school-level competitors globally. As a world-class extensive robotics competition, FIRST Robotics Competition requires the cooperation of students and mentors to build complete models for demonstration and competitions. The tournament gives students the opportunity to apply their technical skills to design, build and operate robots. Not only does FRC require teams to brainstorm and be creative with their product, it also calls for solidarity, teamwork skills, and extreme competitiveness between teams in order to seize victory.

2023 is the 32nd year of the contest, with nearly 40 teams from 34 countries competing. Teams around the world are divided into 33 regions, with each region divided into leagues. GreenAms 6520 Robotics Team (GART 6520) is a 21-member team from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School competing in the Asia-Pacific region (Pacific Region) and is the only representative of Vietnam to participate in the international arena. This is the 5th time GART6520 has participated in the contest with an aim to continue writing its own legacy and fulfill great expectations of the school and of the country as well.
With innovations and a meticulous design, GART6520 reduced the robot’s area and weight (54kg) and cost down to a minimum, allowing the robot to be as compact as to the amazement of the judges. On March 10, GART6520 will participate in a practice match to prepare for the qualifying round on March 11 in the arena with an area of 8m x 16m. In this round, the Vietnamese team will face opponents from mighty countries like Australia, Singapore and Taiwan. On March 12, the Vietnamese representative will attend the playoff round. The final round of the tournament will take place on the same day.

“Representing Vietnam in the international arena is always a pride for anyone, and so is it for our GART6520 team. Through this journey, not only during the time in Australia but also during the preparation period in Vietnam, everyone in the team has learned a lot, from improving their expertise in STEM and Robotics skills to writing skills, during which we also created memorable experiences together. The participation in this FIRST Robotics Competition is also an affirmation of the mission that the club has always pursued the past 7 years, which is to spread STEM and Robotics to our community and propel Vietnam forward in the world of global technology. We will try our best in the upcoming days to bring glory to our country. Let's all follow and support GART6520 in our journey at FIRST Robotics Competition!" - A member of GART6520 said.
Meaningful advice for the team before heading to Australia to compete.
After 4 seasons of participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition, GreenAms 6520 Robotics Team (GART6520) has reached the top of the tournament multiple times and even won the “Technical Design” award in 2021. This year, with a prospective lineup, GART6520 promises to be full of surprises and even more prizes.
On behalf of Ams Wide Web’s Editorial Board, we would like to wish the GART6520 team a successful competition and valuable results. We hope the team will continue to maintain its performance to go further in the field of science and technology and contribute to transforming STEM education at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted as well as across Vietnam.
