Christmas 2022 at Ams through the eyes of Teacher Nguyen My Ha

Winter may arrive late this year, but Christmas has always been the same. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and on this year’s Christmas, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted has brought back an even more festive atmosphere with shimmering Christmas trees after two years of Covid. In the face of such unexpected changes, what do the teachers think, having welcomed so many generations of Amsers? Let’s hear what Teacher Nguyen My Ha has to say about this year's Christmas season!

Reporter: Hello, my name is Khanh Chi and I’m an Ams Wide Web reporter. Thank you for accepting our interview request today. To start the interview, I'd like to know what kind of holiday Christmas is for you personally?

Ms. HàAs a Catholic, Christmas is a very important occasion for me. Usually I will plan well ahead of this holiday. Like many Catholic households, my family will be decorating our house with pine trees and lights in anticipation of Christmas. On the night of the 24th, my family and I will be going to the Mass. A Mass usually begins with musical performances to welcome the Christ Child, followed by the Mass’ prayers. When the Mass ceremony ends, my family and friends will have a cozy little party together, give each other gifts and wish each other the best. Christmas is therefore a warm reunion day.

Reporter: Was Christmas a lesson topic in your class this year?

Ms. Hà: I let Amsers try out with making Christmas-themed items and I was very happy seeing how they have exceeded my expectations. I was not only able to admire meticulously crafted creative and brilliant models but also interact with very bright and energetic Amsers, which made my Christmas season more colorful than ever.

Reporter: Christmas this year is a rather special occasion with our school decorated for Christmas for the first time, probably to the surprise of many Amsers. As someone who has been with Ams for many years, what do you think of this change?

Ms. Hà: In previous years, the school didn't have plans to prepare for Christmas, but this year, I could feel the Christmas spirit imbued in the air from very early on. Our school adorned the hallways with magnificent pine trees to celebrate the holiday, which have also become a wonderful check-in spot for everyone. It appears that everyone was thrilled by this, too. Furthermore, musical performances were scheduled for students in grades 6 and 7. They have been diligently practicing for the performances, I hope they will succeed and enjoy themselves in the moments, too.

Reporter: You've probably seen the sight of classes busily preparing for Christmas, so has any class captivated the green eyes of an art teacher like you?

Ms. Hà: The Christmas spirit has filled every nook and cranny of Ams. Each class has its own distinct personality, decorations and preparations. One class had a student dressed up as Santa Clause, while another class exchanged gifts, which delighted everyone. Class 9A and 9D particularly impressed me. They have definitely made each other's Christmas season bright and warm.

Reporter: Do you have any messages for the teachers and students?

Ms. Hà: I wish all students and teachers a happy and safe Christmas with their families and hope you will end your own 2022 with loads of success in life. I hope Amsers will continue to shine and become all-rounded individuals.

Another year is drawing to a close with the warm echo of the Christmas season - the holiday of reunion, warmth, and serenity after a year full of ups and downs.
