“One of the most pressing problems we are facing today is climate change. Both of our countries, Vietnam and the Netherlands, are countries vulnerable to climate change. Our Holland has a quarter of the country located below the sea level, and your Vietnam, with a long coastline, suffers regularly from storms and floods. We, both countries, and the students here, have and will continue to cooperate to fight against climate change as well as for environmental protection.” – Mr. Christoph Prommersberger, Vice Ambassador of the Netherlands in Vietnam shared in the award ceremony for the painting competition “Vietnamese youth’s creativity for climate change adaptation”.

On the morning of January 20th 2021, at the Uncle Ho lobby of Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, the award ceremony for the painting competition “Vietnamese youth’s creativity for climate change adaptation”. The ceremony was graced by the present of Mr Christoph Prommersberger, Vice Ambassador of the Netherlands in Vietnam; Mrs Tran Thuy Duong, Party Committee Secretary and Principal of Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; Mrs Duong Tu Anh, Vice Principal of the school, along with the teachers, officials from the Netherlands Embassy in Hanoi and the students.
Opening the ceremony was the performance from members of the school’s cheerleading club – Cheer Ams.

Next, Mrs Tran Thuy Duong and Mr Christoph both made speeches. Mrs Duong shared: “In recent years, the environment has been a difficult issue that have posed a great many challenges for humanity; to mitigate the problems and improve the alarming situation of the nature, first we need to raise awareness about the values of the environment, as well as the ability and the mindfulness to protect the environment of each student. And I believe the earnest paintings from them have completed that mission. Each of your painting is an invaluable contribution to the spread of meaningful messages about the environmental protection service”. During the ceremony, Mrs Tran Thuy Duong and Mr Christoph also spared a lot of encouragement and praises for the students for their small yet significant contributions.
From more than 400 entries, the judges picked out 40 paintings that got the consolidation prize, 5 that got the third prize, 3 that got the second prize, 1 that got the first prize and 1 that got the grand prize. These are all passionate works of art, full of dreams about a greener Earth in the future.

Next was the 5 students with third prizes: Pham Ngan An from class 7E, Do Bao Anh Thu from class 8C, Nguyen Hoang Mai from class 6D, Tran Nguyen Dieu Thanh from class 8C, Vu Phuong Anh from class 9C.
The ones with second prizes were: Nguyen Tu Linh from class 11 Literature, Hoang Ha from class 8D, Phan Duong Ha An from class 7B.

The first prize got awarded to Hoang Le Hai Dang from class 6 Manchester and the grand prize was handed to Vu Mai Anh from class 6C with the work titled: “Earth, Hanoi and the Universe”.

When asked by Ams Wide Web reporters about her feelings when drawing this picture, Mai Anh, the grand prize winner, shared: “I wish for an angel to protect the Earth in order to gain back its majestic beauty. After knowing I won the grand prize, I was very happy and content. Through this painting, I want to deliver the message that: we have this life because of the Earth, therefore we must do our best to protect it.”

Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted has been and will always be the nurturing cradle, the stepping stone for future heirs of the country – the generations that are not only in possession of talent, but also admirable, meaningful and practical lives.
