Amsers won Gold Medals at the 2021 International Math and Science Olympiad
Vietnamese students won a total of 20 medals at the recent International Math and Science Olympiad.
The 17th International Math & Science Olympiad (IMSO 2021) held in Indonesia has just ended with an online closing/award ceremony at 19:00 on January 24th (Vietnamese time zone).
The national team selected for IMSO 2021 consisted of 24 participants, all being 6th graders from schools all over Hanoi: Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Giang Vo Secondary School, Trung Vuong Secondary School, Ngo Si Lien Secondary School, Nguyen Truong To Secondary School, Hanoi Star School, Archimedes Secondary School, Newton Secondary School, Cau Giay Secondary School, Doan Thi Diem Secondary School, Nguyen Sieu Secondary School, CLC Thanh Xuan Secondary School, Archimedes Academy Secondary School.
After the 3-day-competition, Nguyen Tung Lam - Giang Vo Secondary School’s student and Ha Manh Hung - Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted’s student brought home for the National team 2 Gold Medals in Math.
What’s more, other students received in total 5 Silver Medals and 4 Bronze Medals in each of the specialized subjects: Math and Science.
IMSO 2021, hosted by Indonesia, took place from January 21th to January 26th. By reason of the Covid-19 outbreak, students resorted to taking tests in their own home countries at the same time periods. This year’s event saw only 15 participating countries and regions, and it was broadcast live everywhere in the world.
Giang Vo Secondary School (Ba Dinh district, Hanoi, Vietnam) was where the competition took place.
The International Math and Science Olympiad for students under the age of 13 was held for the first time in 2003. The competition hitherto continued to take place at host countries and became an event that international teachers and students hold in high esteem.
Science team’s selected students
Hosting the 16th IMSO in 2019, Vietnam brought home a remarkable achievement: 7 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals, 4 Bronze Medals (Math) and 8 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals (Science). Chu Binh Minh - a Vietnamese student - was the all-round champion in Science that year.
