Following the success of five previous conferences, the 6th VietAbroader Study-Abroad Conference – “Passing of the Torch” will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on July 15th and in Hanoi on July 16th, 2011. With participation of successful Vietnamese applicants and representatives of top US universities, the conference aims to help Vietnamese students achieve their dream pursuing higher education in the United States.

Initiated in 2005, VietAbroader Conference “Passing of the Torch” was the first study-abroad conference to be organized entirely by overseas Vietnamese students. Since its initiation, the conference has always provided participants with accurate and updated information about studying abroad in the US. While maintaining the successful elements of previous years’ conference, VietAbroader Conference 2011 will bring many special changes on its content and format.

VietAbroader Conference Ho Chi Minh City 2011

In addition to the main conference taking place on July 15th, “Orientation Day” will be held on July 10th as a new feature of Ho Chi Minh City Conference, specifically designed for students and parents who are less-informed about overseas education. Orientation Day's priority is to provide participants with general and basic information of the educational system as well as the application process to colleges in the United States. Owing to that, the Conference Day will hold panel discussions exclusively, where guest speakers – Vietnamese students who have successfully applied to US colleges – can interactively provide in-depth information, share personal experiences on student life abroad, and answer specific questions from participants.

Furthermore, the Individual Application Assistance program has been expanded in the afternoon to better serve the larger demand. Selected participants will be divided into small groups and personally assisted by VA Conference staff and guest speakers in different components of the application process, varying from standardized test preparation to essay writing. At the same time, our annual School Fair will have participation of many Vietnamese student representatives from top US universities such as Stanford, Williams, Harvard, etc.

VietAbroader Conference Ha Noi 2011

Taking place on July 16th, VA Conference Ha Noi this year will emphasize on the interaction between participants and guest speakers. The amount of time allocated for presentations will be reduced; instead, students will be divided into small groups to interact more closely with guest speakers coming from the most prestigious US universities such as Princeton, Amherst, Yale, etc. Moreover, in order to enable parents to better assist their children in studying abroad, the conference will have a separate information room for parents, covering topics on student life abroad, application process, and visa application.

At the School Fair in the afternoon, for the first time a group of student guides will be available to assist participants in locating around and effectively collecting necessary information from the colleges at the fair. Another new feature of VietAbroader Conference in Ha Noi this year is the School Representatives’ Notes, which will provide participants with insider’s views from Vietnamese students about their own colleges.

Besides the original study-abroad events, VietAbroader organizing team also strives to encourage young Vietnamese students to get more involved in extra-curricular activities. On the occasion of the “Passing of the Torch” Conference, “VA Talent” contest will be held prior to the conference to create a friendly platform for Vietnamese youth to show their special talents and win fantastic prizes. The contest will take place on our main online channel at "http://vietabroader.org/talent/" from June 1st to July 9th.
