I still remember the first day Ms. Thủy taught our class 11 Literature. Standing up to hail her , I could hear praises around: “Oh, Ms. Geography is so pretty”, “She looks just like a foreigner!”. Ms. Thủy with fair skin, high nose, deep eyes, gentle face and especially her radiant smile impressed us right from that moment. And we love her all the more for her tenderness, her loving gaze for us students as well as her teaching method that has given us so much inspiration in Geography.

Ms. Thủy with fair skin, high nose, deep eyes, gentle face and especially her radiant smile impressed us right from that moment. And we love her all the more for her tenderness, her loving gaze for us students as well as her teaching method that has given us so much inspiration in Geography.

Ms. Thủy doesn’t force us to write too much of theoretical knowledge. Geography is never arid, making us lie languishly on the table and write meaningless words. 11 Literature and many other classes love Ms. Thủy and her lessons, because we feel that we really are a part of it. She encourages us to make a close study of the lessons and express our opinions. We are given the chance to analyze graphs, comment on causes and consequences, debate to reinforce and perfect our knowledge. Ms. Thủy always listens to us attentively, not forget to smile praisingly to us as we finish our presentations. She also explains carefully every details so that we can understand and use the right methods. Hence, despite our short and concise notes, what remains in our head is more significant. It is simply because Ms. Thủy does not only teach us new knowledge but also wants to train the skills for students to study effectively, smartly and creatively.

We are interested in her lessons as well as the way Ms. Thủy designs her tests: they by no means are arid but instead center on the knowledge focus, combining on all skills needed. We are no longer miserable with Geography once we have got a strong hold of it. She facilitates for us with exam papers of our own level, never straying from the knowledge that we’ve learnt. She may be easy-going but she was not permissive to students as she said: “In exam time, each individual has to finish his/ her work. I will not be content and will apply strict punishments if you exchange your papers or cheat, because high score is meaningless if that is not earned by your own efforts. But if you do serious study, be honest to me and to yourself , I will be very happy with your results – high or low scores alike – because then I know that I can trust my students.”

Beside her ardor and enthusiasm to Geography, she always tries to create an intimate relationship between teachers and students. She played Michael Jackson’s “Earth Song” so that we, swinging our hand to the melody, can together reflect on lancinating problems of the world. She smiled as she watched us mischievous 11 Literature after the lesson. Jubiantly, Ms. Thủy asked us: “Who can guess my last name? I am a descendant of Mai An Tiêm myself”. A charming, feminine teacher who likes wearing floral dresses also has a sense of humor. This little discovery made us feel closer to her than ever.

Our Geography teacher: always charming and youthful

As October the 20th is drawing near, our class 11 Literature want to send the most sincere tribute to you for the your dedication to our class. We have been given and will continue to expect your warm smile as well as all the interesting and helpful knowledge in more Geography lessons still to come. You and many other teachers in our heart will always be the quiet and patient lighter who guided the way to generations of students on the path to knowledge and beautiful ways of life.
