[Vietnamese Teachers' Day 20/11] Ams in me

People often say that a best friend is a present beyond perfection in the world, and luckily, Ams has brought me two. I cannot express how thankful I am for having these two people by my side, sharing a huge bunch in common and reaching what is hidden inside me. In some ways they are more myself than I am; it is not exaggerated to say that “whatever our souls are made of, theirs and mine are the same”.

I remember a saying from one of my best-loved movies “Adolescence is just like a summer heavy rain….even though you catch a cold from it, you still look forward to experiencing it again”. Tumultous yet impassioned, full of mistakes yet noteworthy - that description, I guess, is the most exact one I can give about this part of my life with Ams as a taciturn and punctilious eyewitness.

I love it when we together sit still in the warm and cozy atmosphere of a café and are completely surrounded by mish-mashes of sounds of the fast-flowing lifespeed. I love it when we side by side spend the whole afternoon hanging out to bookshops, engaged in the fresh and new smell of paper and letting our thoughts wander round and round . I also love it when we wait til dusk to lay our back down on Ams Arena, staring at the sky of interstellars and talking about the guys who we unexpectedly have strange feelings towards… Slightly but all at once, they all become memorable pieces of life that will take me hundreds, thousands or even billions of years to forget.

Ams has also granted me a second family called English1 2013-2016 with a wonderful teacher and over 40 talented and original classmates. Unlike most of them, I was a student of the Secondary block of our school; therefore, keeping in mind the notion that Ams was mine and only mine, I did not find it easy to fit in a place full of new students and found it rather “shocking” to see a number of “strangers” at my “home”. I know it was quite childish, but the thought just kept wandering around in my head and prevented me from opening up and getting closer to my new classmates. However, time went by and I gradually realized how nice and interesting these friends were; “Why can’t these amazing people be my new family?’, it suddenly dawned on me, and my point of view was totally changed back then. It turns out that the more I open up myself to my classmates, the more I understand my friends. They are Kien with a special penchant for cats and Chau with weird yet super mature thoughts; they are also Duc with a wide range of knowledge about science, Chi Mai with extremely logical thinking or Phat with a amazing talent of rapping, etc. All of them, each different from another, together comprise a puzzle with a huge number of colorful pieces.

Following the footsteps of English1 Classes of the previous years, this year we have the opportunity to be the organizing board of a competition called Ams’ Got Talent, and this is the 7th year this intriguing competition has been held. Although we have only gone through one third of the journey, I am totally surprised at how compact and intertwined we are as a class, and as a family. As far back as when the plan for the competition was still in its infancy, people’s high spirits and uniformity foretold the event’s success. Arguments have frequently broken out due to the undeniable fact that each member of our class has different frames of mind, but we have passion, we have determination, and we have each other; mistakes can be made, unforeseen problems can occur, but as a group of young people with scorching flames inside, we can make anything happen. We are going to succeed, because we are Amsers, we are English class, and we are an inseperable block.

People go through each stage of their life with something special to carry with them. For my part, I will put all of my best years of adolescence in Ams in a huge luggage and carry it on with me to my next destinaion of life. My soulmates, my best friends, my wonderful teacher, my sensible and interesting classmates, etc – all these people are the ones who make myself complete and help me get ready for a new journey ahead.
