Entering the last year of secondary school, ninth-grade students will have to undergo a turning point in the learning process, which is the entrance exam to grade 10. In order to answer any questions that the students have, the teachers of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School have held a meeting to guide them through skills of selecting schools, learning methods and  to help them get ready to pass the exam with flying colors

The meeting took place on Wednesday, 03/20/2013 at the 200-seat hall. All ninth-grade students and some teachers attended this talk show.

1

Opening the meeting was an overview about some specialized schools in Hanoi and their required passing scores.

Next, Ms. Truong Thi Thu Thuy introduced three groups of high schools in Hanoi. Group 1 includes schools that require a score of 50 points and above, group 2 of 45 to 50 points, group 3 of below 45 points. This introduction helps the students to choose the most suitable school with their ability. Moreover, Ms. Thuy offered some advice on how to learn effectively. In addition, she noted that not all Amsers, despite their potential, have the right attitude in study. The students themselves must find out the true goals of their academic work.

After that, Ms. Bui Hoai Thanh guided the students how to create a reasonable schedule to prepare for the upcoming big exam. She cited her own experiences, gave useful advice such as learning should be positive and the ultimate goal is to have well-rounded understanding and personality. She stated that the ninth-grade students have yet to know how to manage time smartly for study. She wanted the 9th graders to absolutely focus on the entrance exam to grade 10, especially by applying their self-study ability.

3

Through her experiences, she suggested some simple but efficient ways of learning. The students should determine what they will major in, how long they should spend on that subject daily; they should learn their favorite parts first and must avoid distractions such as mobiles, Facebook and computer games. They should choose a comfortable study corner, and have a handbook in which they will list what they need to do. Especially they need to take care of their health before the big day.

In the third part of the meeting, the teachers shared some of their tips to get high scores on the test day. In the end, they answered questions the students had.

Thanks to the great efforts of the teachers and the attendance of the ninth-grade students, the meeting was a success. After this meeting, the ninth-graders had a general idea of the entrance exam as well as collected a bunch of valuable information to get prepared for the coming exam in June.
