Post by: trangtrang | 14/08/2017 | 1815 reads

Society of Open Science (SOS), founded in 2014, is a science club of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. The number of members and the quality of events get more and more impressive through years of running the club. Behind such success stand the devoted management board. Today, we have the chance to interview one of the club's presidents in the term 2016-1017 – Le Tran Anh Duc (Chemistry class 1518).

Interviewer: Hello! Thank you for sparing time for this interview with Ams Wide Web. Would you please introduce yourself to the readers?

Anh Duc: To begin with, it is my honor to be present in this talk with Ams Wide Web. My full name is Le Tran Anh Duc, Le Tran for short. I am currently a student of Chemistry class 15-18 and president of Society of Open Science in the term 2016-2017.

Le Tran Anh Duc- President of SOS 2016-2017

I: What brought you to this club?

AD: I first knew about SOS through Science Tornado 2015. Some students in the Chemistry class 1417, Nguyen Bang Thanh Lam and Le Ha Thu, also told me about this fantastic club. When I arrived at the main exhibition of Science Tornado 2015, I was super impressed by the large scale of the experiments carried out. The most memorable one to be must be Fire Hand since it was easy for most people to do and they all looked cool doing it (laugh). The first time I actually worked for SOS as a volunteer was at Science Fair, Booksquare. Thanks to the event, I made acquaintance with a friend that is now my best pal. When I first got into high school, I was a lively young boy with lots of wild ambitions. However, I chose to make SOS my family throughout all those 3 years.

I: What is the most memorable thing you got in SOS?

AD: Two years may not be such a long period of time but I had countless memories at the club. I miss those early mornings of heated discussion over the organization and content of events, those noons down at the lab, those late evenings making props with my friends. The most memorable event ever should be the Gala night of Science Camp 2017, since I had the chance to spend all my time with the whole club. My feelings were so mixed, including happiness, worry, nostalgia, and a little bit regret too.

I: What did it feel like to be officially voted as the President of SOS 2016-2017?

AD: To hold such an important position in this club is something I'd barely thought of. I even felt like I was not capable of handling all the responsibility. However, I was lucky to receive tons of support from my friends there, and we managed to sail through all the hardships and difficulties.

I: Having devoted to SOS in the past 2 years, do you feel like SOS like something really special?

AD: It is not difficult to answer this question, but I just cannot put those feelings of mine into words. For me, SOS has given me everything I've never deserved or anticipated. SOS is certainly one of those things I would treasure most throughout my 7 years at Ams.

I: The new school year has begun, meaning you will soon pass on the President position. Is there any message you would like to send to the future generations of SOS in particular and all the 1720 kids in general?

AD: I have lots of words to say to them, but I think actions shall speak louder than words. I hope they will be ready to engage deeply with the lively atmosphere of the school and all the events they will be participating in.

I: Thank you again Anh Duc for the interview today!

Through those sincere words that Anh Duc shared about the club, we could see his profound attachment and devotion to it. The new school year is already here, 1720 students will soon sign up for the clubs you want to be a part of. Remember that wherever you are, you can always find your family at school to love and to sail through these high school years together!
