It’s been more than a week since the Festival of the talented (NHAT) finale, but the boisterous and jubilant atmosphere of the evening is bound to remain forever in each and every Amser’s mind. The excitement multiplied when the awards for Class Clip, Class Tent, Most Wanted Class… were given. Finally here came the time for the most prestigious award – Ams Ambassador. Happiness filled the air when the award was given to Hoang Hanh Chi, a candidate from 12 Chinese 12-15. As an Ams Wide Web reporter and a three-year friend with Chi, I had laid all our faith in her.

It was believed that Hanh Chi would become the Ambassador ever since she signed up for the contest (AA).“I just want to take a chance to challenge myself…to compete with outstanding people from all other classes…I’ve never gone in for any similar contests before, so I want to experience something new when still a high school student.”, said Chi. Her reason for participating in the contest was just that simple. It’s was not for fame, not for awards but for the valuable experience And at that exact moment, everybody knew that she would become the 2014 Ams Ambassador. That was for sure.

Following Hanh Chi in the journey in search of the AA since the elimination round, we saw the simple, sincere, yet profound and elegant Chi. It was predicted that she would go further.

Not surprisingly, Chi passed the elimination round with ease and headed straight to the talent round. That was when the semester exams took place. The time ahead was the toughest of all. Chi spent most of her time on studying, so there was not much time dedicated to Dancesport. Worriedly she shared with us that her skills had been diminished, thus a highest-quality performance might not be possible. Chi was in the depths of her despair then. So anxious, so pressed was her that she wanted to quit. The talent round, she told us, was actually a huge challenge in which she encountered the most difficulties.

Friends were always by her side, reassuring and encouraging her, so gradually she pulled herself together and got back her determination. Having practiced until the last minutes, Chi pulled it off with an extremely attractive Dancesport performance. That impressive performance was what led her to the next stages of the AA journey.

As summer drew near, Chi, together with other contestants, was making preparations for the Crowd Dance pre-event of NHAT. Chi told me this was the most memorable experience throughout the contest. As there were days when staying through noon and afternoon to practice was compulsory, everybody had great times rehearsing together, laughing and undergoing hardships together. The contestants had the chance to narrow the gaps among them; to such an extent that Chi felt this was no longer a competition but a place to learn about new friends, the new and overwhelmingly lovable friends.

The next contest is the Ams Ambassador album, deciding the title of “Favorite Ambassador”. We must say Chi’s album had a very strong impression on us: the vivid photos had their own living souls. Chi’s album, all credit goes to the photographer, cleverly depicted her passion for Dancesport, her zeal, her happiness as well as her soul. In that album, as we could proudly assert, there was not a grain of disingenuousness, but purely the truth, and entirely our Hanh Chi. The simplicity always makes the photo’s success.

Before the Finale, Hanh Chi suddenly had feelings of inferiority. She said her achievements, talents and personal preferences didn’t stand out, and thus she couldn’t stand comparison with other contestants. I told her to take a closer look at her curriculum vitae and to grasp that the achievements, the roles she had played and would be playing, all made up her true self, her full self. Chi was modest, but I wanted her to know that she had done so much, and need to take pride on herself a little bit.

The moment Chi was crowned,  many people and I burst into tears. It wasn’t because the result came as a surprise, but this Ambassador title would help her to be more proud of herself, more self-confident, and realize how wonderful she herself was.

After becoming the Ambassador, Chi said to me that sometimes she wanted to be normally addressed, instead of being referred to as “Ambassador”. She admitted that after being titled Ams Ambassador there would undoubtedly be many changes in her life. Understandably, as the representative of such a great figure as Amsterdam, she will have to make constant efforts to perfect herself, with the hope that her influence can convey good messages to everybody. But as we all know, Hanh Chi will not change, will always be modest, simple, good-natured, deep, and will always be our Hanh Chi.
