On the morning of November 1, the Center for Communication of Resources and Environment (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) in collaboration with the education and training departments of provinces and cities launched the "Say no to single use plastic" program and the Environmental Innovation Contest for an environmentally friendly Vietnam.

Representatives of the Resource and Environment Communication Center donated trash cans to the program.

This is a program that stimulates the creativity and enthusiasm of students through an education program about the environment. The program teaches good consumption habits in schools, builds awareness and educates students to reduce and limit single-use plastic, encouraging the use of eco-friendly products.

Notably, the program offers many attractive prizes to encourage students to participate, specifically 5 prize that are sports kits (basketball frame) made from recycled milk box worth 25 million VND/yard.

In addition, 200 individual prizes are awarded with a green energy gift set, along with the privilege of having their entries posted on the official page (Facebook Page) of the Center for Environmental and Resource Communication.

Through educational programs and contests, the Organizing Committee wishes to gradually educate green habits and lifestyles in schools, build awareness and teach students to reduce and limit single used plastic products, encourage the use of environmentally friendly products such as paper bags, reusable cloth bags, biodegradable plastic bags, woven bags made from reusable nylon fibers.

According to a United Nations report, Vietnam ranks 17th out of 109 countries with high levels of plastic waste pollution in the world. According to the Department of Waste Management, General Department of Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the index of plastic consumption per capita in Vietnam has increased rapidly in recent years. While in 1990, each Vietnamese person consumed about 3.8kg/year, by 2015, this figure had increased to 49kg/person/year, nearly 13 times higher.

Previously, in the beginning of 2021, the department had implemented the campaign "Say no to plastic straws" with Nestlé MILO to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste.

In phase 1 from June to August 2021, the campaign was launched and called for response from "98 million champions who say no to plastic straws". Phase 2 will take place from October to December 2021, with activities in response to the "Make the world cleaner" campaign of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
