July 20th, Department of education Testing and Accreditation and the Ministry of Education of Vietnam have announced all 5 members of the Vietnamese team (IPhO) has earned high achievements in the 2014 International Physics Olympiad, including 3 Gold medals and 2 Silver medals. In particular, Vu ThanhTrung Nam, the youngest members studying in 11L1, has earned a gold medal, highlighting the academic tradition of Hanoi-Amsterdam high school.

While the 5 members has all attended the recent Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) with great results, Trung Nam, in particular, was one of the prominent faces representing Vietnam in the 2014 APhO in Singapore and brought home a prestigious Silver medal. This is an astonishing feat for Hanoi-Amsterdam, considering Nam was only an 11th grader.

The two members earing silver medals are Dao Phuong Khoi, a 12th grader at HNUE high school, and Pham Nguyen Tuan Anh, a 12th grader at Ho Chi Minh city’s High school for the Gifted.

This year, 84 countries and territories compete in the IPhO, with a total of 383 participants. There are three countries that earn 5 gold medals each, one that earns 4 gold medals and six that earns 3 gold medals, including Vietnam. With this achievement, Vietnam places in the top 10 team with highest results in the 2014 IPhO. This sets the record for the highest accomplishment ever reached by the Vietnamese team in the IPho (neck and neck with the result of the 2008 IPho)

On schedule, the Vietnamese team is arriving at the NoiBai international Airport on July 22th.

Again we would like to send our congratulations to Vu ThanhTrung Nam for having successfully earned a gold medal, bringing glory to Hanoi-Amsterdam high school, where many talents have grown and prospered. In our preparation to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Hanoi-Amsterdam, Nam’s great achievements would be the perfect source of encouragement and blessing for Pham Mai Huong and Pham NganGiang, two 12H1 students who are participating the 2014 International Chemistry Olympiad in Hanoi from July 21th to 28th.
