Sympathize with the unfortunate together with Amsers

Rows of decrepit slums deep into Cot Co alley, opposite Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi), the other side of the busy and bustling Hanoi City life, are home to 119 patients with chronic nephritis, who have to resiliently undergo hemodialysis for survival.

Coming from different regions with distinct situations, the patients, year after year, day after day, have been tenaciously striving to fight against the Grimm Reaper. The annual cost of artificial kidney treatment amounts to 95 million VND, let alone medicine and sustenance fees. Though the government has already paid 95 percent of insurance fee every year, this enormous expense is onerous and burdensome to many families. Mr. Nguyen Van Tan – the head of the “hemodialysis village” shared that the “citizens” of this village, even children, have to be jacks of all trades: becoming vendors, selling ice – cream, maintaining cars, taking care of patients’ relatives, polishing shoes, etc. to earn a living and escape from the dingy and dilapidated 4-5 square meters houses lacking fundamental necessities such as water, electricity, etc.

In the hope of empathizing with those unlucky circumstances thanks to food sponsor of Dan Chu Hotel (Trang Tien), on 23/10 and 30/10 this year, we, Ams students from Share Food – We Could team, had a meaningful trip to the hemodialysis village, donating food portions and compassionately talking with the patients there.

On our arrival, we were really astounded to see such pitiable lives around us. However, they still lived in harmony and affectionately gave moral support to one another. After the charity, we believed that this was one of the most memorable experiences in our minds.

Let’s take a look at all those photos of our volunteering day!
